ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Twenty-one foreign students were detained during raids on two seminaries in central Pakistaninfo-icon on Sunday morning, local media reported.

Located in the Gujranwala district of Punjab province, the religious schools -- Mazahirul Uloom and Anwarul Uloom -- belonged to a former lawmaker, Geo TV channel reported.

Qazi Hameedullah, an ex-member of the National Assembly, owns the seminaries. He is a teacher of Talibaninfo-icon supreme leader Mullahinfo-icon Omar, according to Express News.

The foreign students, including Afghans, were taken into custody for staying in the country illegally. The detainees were shifted to an unknown location for investigations.
