NEILY (PAN insurgents during a clash that left 26 rebels dead and 34 others injured in central Daikundi province, the governor said on Thursday.
Vacated by foreign troops last year, the base, located between Kajran district of Daikundi and Baghran district of Helmand, was overrun by the insurgents five days ago after killing one security personnel and injuring two others.
Governor Abdul Haq Shafaq told Pajhwok Afghan News the base was recaptured during an operation by security forces on Thursday morning. He said 26 rebels were killed and 34 others injured, while 10 police check posts, which had been captured by rebels, were also retaken.
“The Kajran bazaar has completely been cleared of rebels in cooperation with area residents,” the governor said, adding the operation involved Afghan army, local and national police.
But the Taliban said three security personnel were killed and four others injured during the clashes. They confirmed the death of only one fighter and injuries to two others.
