KANDAHDAR CITY (PAN): Three young boys playing football were killed and four others wounded when a rocket allegedly fired by insurgents hit a playground in southern Kandahar province on Saturday, an official said.

The incident took place this afternoon in Maiwand district, said Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesman.

He alleged the Taliban had fired the rocket that landed on the playground and exploded, killing three boys and wounding four others, who were playing soccer.

He said the injured boys aged between 10 and 15 years had been rushed to hospital for treatment and their condition was said to be critical.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident that came the day three civilians and three policemen sustained injuries in a bomb blast in Spin Boldak district and a day after two civilians were killed in a blast in Dand district.
