Radio Pakistan reported Sharif called the two leaders separately before embarking on a trip to the United States on Tuesday to attend the UN General Assembly. He felicitated both on reaching a power-sharing deal.
Sharif invited them to visit Pakistan, hoping the incoming government would take meaningful steps to alleviate mistrust between the neighbours. Cross-border attacks by militants have strained bilateral relations.
The News International reported Nawaz Sharif hoped that Ghani and Abdullah would live up to expectations of their people. Islamabad would do all it could to help Kabul promote reconciliation in Afghanistan.
